Admiral Patrick

I’m surprisingly level-headed for being a walking knot of anxiety.

Ask me anything.

I also develop Tesseract UI for Lemmy/Sublinks

If you’re not constantly virtue-signaling, you’re not Lemmying correctly

They’re not necessarily wrong, but they’re not helpful and kind-of tone deaf at the same time. Like, you can’t enjoy anything without someone chiming in about how that small thing that brings you joy means you’re six degrees removed from slave labor or supporting someone evil. Guess they expect everyone to go live joylessly in the woods or something?

It’s like…have you ever seen The Good Place? They’re like the people who came up with the rules to get in. I’ll put the rest in spoilers just in case you haven’t.

    Spoiler

It turns out, they’re in The Bad Place the whole time. They later learn that no one has gotten into The Good Place for over 500 years because the world is so inter-connected, it’s impossible to be a truly good person according to the rules (which don’t account for unintended side effects your actions may cause).

e.g. You buy flowers for you mom on her birthday. Nice gesture and surely going to get you some “good” points right? Wrong! That’s a lot of “bad” points because you ordered them from a website owned by an evil corp, and that evil corp did a lot of evil things with your money, the delivery driver’s van caused a lot of pollution, etc. Ordering them from the local shop wouldn’t have been any better since they don’t source them locally. Etc and etc.

  • The charging system in that region is excellent. … - we used them all. Several required a different app, which was the only hassle

That. That is my main hangup with EVs (though that’s not an EV problem in and of itself). I no longer carry a smartphone, and even when I did, I didn’t “app”.

I do not want to be required to have my phone on me, have it be charged, or have a stupid app installed to be able to refuel my vehicle. And chances are, those apps already do or eventually will refuse to work on custom ROMs (I’m a big fan of LineageOS).

We solved this problem ages ago with debit card terminals on gas pumps (or an attendant you can hand cash to). Why are we app-ifying the same experience with EVs?

It’s like a forceful put or get.

Now I kind-of want HTTP verbs for those.

    YEET /api/v1/submit HTTP/1.1
    Host: example.com
    User-Agent: curl/8.6.0
    Accept: */*
    Content-Type: application/json

    ...

    YOINK /api/v1/list HTTP/1.1
    Host: example.com
    User-Agent: curl/8.6.0
    Accept: application/json
